Mysteries, Thrillers, and Suspense

This page is for book recommendations, new books on our shelves, and more for the genres of mystery, suspense, and thriller. This is a broad range of books, but I’m putting them together because there is often confusion about whether a book is a mystery or a thriller. Sometimes I read a book that was listed as a thriller and find out it was really more of a mystery.

The difference is supposed to be:

A mystery focuses on solving a question, usually about the identity of a villain.

Procedurals usually fall under the large category of mystery. They can be thrillers, too. It depends on how much danger the main characters are in.

A thriller focuses on survival, escape, or capture. A lot of times the reader already knows who the villain is.

Romantic suspense novels are similar to thrillers, but they add a prominent, romantic subplot.

Also on this page are cozy mysteries. A cozy is meant to be cleaner and less scary than a regular mystery.
