Paige Tyler writes books about werewolves, alpha males, military, and romance.
Paige is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of romantic suspense, military romantic suspense and paranormal romance. She and her very own military hero (also known as her husband) live on the beautiful Florida coast with their adorable fur baby (also known as their dog). Paige graduated with a degree in education, but decided to pursue her passion and write books about hunky alpha males and the kick-butt heroines who fall in love with them.
When not working on her latest book, Paige enjoys reading, jogging, P90X, Yoga, Pilates, working out on her Simply Fit Board, going to the beach, watching NFL and college football, watching TV and movies, and hanging out with her husband and fur baby (not necessarily in that order!)
This interview first appeared on our old blog, Books That Hook.
BTH: What is your favorite aspect of being an author?
PT: Getting to go to conferences and interact with readers! Hearing that someone loved my book so much they couldn’t go to bed until they were done is a huge validation that I’m doing something worthwhile.
BTH: What is your least favorite aspect of being an author (or the greatest challenge you have faced in your career)?
PT: Deadlines. The pressure to hit it out of the park—every single time—while rushing to get a novel-length book written in ninety days. The intensity can be extreme, and sometimes you just have to believe that it will all come together perfect exactly at the right moment.
In fact, hubby (who’s my writing partner) and I were at the RT Convention trying to slip away every few hours to get those last ten pages of X-OPS 6 done while working on the outline for the next SEALs of Coronado book (Strong Silent SEAL) at the same time. It was crazy! Especially when the room safe wouldn’t open and we were stuck there for thirty minutes waiting for the security people from the front desk to show up.
BTH: Describe your favorite type of heroine to write about.
PT: I like heroines who are a nice blend of kick butt and girly-girl. The can be sexy, feminine, and love a man while still throwing themselves headlong into danger to be there for the hero.
BTH: What characteristics should an alpha male hero have?
PT: I like alpha males who have a sensitive side—alpha-holes need not apply. I need a hero who can take charge and deal with a tough situation, but still accept that the heroine has something to add to the equation. I don’t write damsels, so if the hero can’t deal with his woman facing dangers with him, there are going to be a problems.
Oh yeah…a nice six-pack does hurt at all, either.
BTH: What book will you write next?
PT: First up is the next SEALs of Coronado—Strong Silent SEAL. It’s available for pre-order now and will release in June. After that, it’s Book 6 of my Special Wolf Alpha Team (SWAT) Series, which is due to my publisher on in July.
BTH: Have you ever considered writing in a genre other than romance? Why or why not?
PT: Not really. I need to have the romance there to interest me. But if I ever did stray outside the bounds of romance, it would be for urban fantasy in deference to my writing partner (Hubby), who tends to love that stuff a lot. He’s the reason our books have so much action and paranormal stuff in them.
BTH: What do you think is the most important piece of writing advice aspiring authors should know?
PT: Writing is a combination of both art and science. You have to focus on the technical aspects of the proper use of the grammar, format, tags, story flow, pacing, promotion, branding, etc. But you also have to spent time finding your unique voice and niche in the industry. It takes some time to get both of these aspects down, so don’t worry if your first book isn’t well received. Keep writing and learning, and doing what you love.
BTH: Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.
PT: Thank you so much for having me!

Excerpt from SEAL for Her Protection
She’d thought he’d be easy to find, but the place was SEAL hunk central, with an awful lot of the fit, attractive guys in attendance. While quite a few of them flashed charming grins in her direction, none of them had those unforgettable blue eyes she’d spent the past four weeks seeing in her dreams.
Her earlier assessment had been right. This was hopeless.
Sighing, Hayley turned to go in search of Brad instead and almost smacked right into the broad, muscular chest of a guy in blue camo. She stared at his uniform up close, absently wondering why the Navy wore blue camouflage. It wasn’t like they were ever going to be in a blue jungle. She glanced at the rank on his collar—noting the three chevrons of a petty officer first class—then the nametag sewn on the right hand side of his chest, noting his name—it said WARD—before lifting her head to apologize for practically mowing him down. But when her gaze met his, all she could do was stare. There couldn’t be two men on the planet with eyes that blue. She’d found the SEAL who’d saved her life.
“It’s you,” she breathed.
2. Strong Silent SEAL
Excerpt from Strong Silent SEAL
“FIGURE OUT A way to get onto the base or your sister dies.”
The threating words kept replaying over and over in Felicia Bradford’s head, freaking her out so badly her hands shook as she steered her SUV into a shopping center a mile from the gate of the Coronado Naval Amphibious Base and pulled into a space. Putting her Nissan Juke in park, she leaned forward and rested her forehead on the steering wheel. She wanted to cry, but she couldn’t take the chance the people holding her sister would hear and think it meant she’d given up. They’d kill Stefanie for sure.
She took a deep breath and felt the tape holding the wire to her stomach pull a little, reminding her exactly where those horrible men had touched her as they’d attached the listening device to her skin. She shuddered at the thought her baby sister, a sophomore in college at the San Diego campus of the University of California, remained in their hands.
