About BTH Reviews

Books That Hook header

Let me tell you a little about BTH Reviews… For three years, we were known as Books That Hook. In July 2017, the blog came up for renewal, and, due to other issues in her life, Jennifer missed the chance to save the hosting and domain name. We had to start over. Jennifer has been trying to restore most of the guest posts, interviews, and reviews, but not much has been moved over yet. She will continue to work on this as she finds time.

With the new blog came a new look. We hope you like it. If there is something you’d like us to include on the site, please send us a message or leave us a comment on one of our pages.

Services Available

Note: for any of our services, we allow do-follow links in the posts only if the link goes to something book related.

Writer’s Corner Guest Post

This is a feature for authors to help other writers by sharing their thoughts on topics related to writing, selling, publishing, etc.. Because this is like an advice column, we expect the person giving advice to have established him/herself as someone who knows how to write well.

Requirements to Be a Writer’s Corner Guest:

  • 50 or more reviews on Amazon or Goodreads
  • average author rating of 3.5 stars or higher
  • Cover and excerpt (if applicable) appropriate for audiences teen and up

Other Guest Posts

We only accept guest posts from people who are in the book industry, such as book bloggers, authors, publicists, and writing teachers.

Spotlight with Excerpt, Giveaway, or Interview

We accept requests for spotlights with excerpts, giveaways, or interviews. Covers and excerpts must not be explicit. Author is responsible for distributing prizes if a giveaway is part of the post.

Guest Review

We welcome reviews from anyone who wants to share their thoughts about a book. However, we reserve the right to edit the post if it has grammatical or spelling errors.

Review Copy Library

If you are a fellow blogger and would like to request a copy of a book in our review copy library, please send us a message through our contact page. Please include the URL of your blog.

If you are an author who would like to be included in our review copy library, please send us a message through our contact page. Please include the Goodreads link for your book.

Book Reviews

All requests will be looked at but not necessarily responded to. We receive so many that we can’t answer them all. If we are interested, we will reply and schedule a date for a review.

All inquiries should be made through our contact form. Inquiries should include the Goodreads link, the Amazon link, and the blurb. Do not send any files unless we respond with an approval.

Genres we will consider: fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal romance, paranormal thriller, cozy mystery, psychological thriller, FBI/detective thriller or mystery, historical romance, romantic suspense, steampunk, and dystopian.

Warnings: we don’t like insta-love, misogyny, selfish or shallow MCs, anti-heroes, or unreliable narrators. Also we are traditional in our preferences regarding sexual content in books: one woman, one man (not a relative, even by marriage), and no pain unless it is actually a victimization depicted as such.

We do not guarantee positive reviews. However, if we have to DNF the book, we will email the author and cancel the review. If this happens, please do not take it personally. Everyone has different reading preferences. Just because we couldn’t get into the story doesn’t mean someone else wouldn’t like it.

We are working on adding author pages for some of our favorite authors.

An author page can also be purchased for $10/yr. This charge covers setting up the page, updating it as needed, and a small portion of the cost to keep the website up and running.

Author Pages do not include entire backlists. If there are many books in a series, we will list them and include an image for at least the first book in the series. Also, if there are many series, we will choose at least three to put on the author page. We link to both Goodreads and Amazon, but not for every individual title.

If you have a preferred retailer other than Amazon, we can add or modify links upon request.

An Author Page also includes: author photo, biography, social media links, excerpts we have permission to share, and links to any other posts we have made for the author.

Here is one example of an author page: Viola Carr

Not all pages follow this exact format.

At the current time, the only form of payment we can accept is Paypal.

Please use the contact page for all inquiries.
